If you searched for Richmond golf lessons but you’re actually serious about improving, what you’re really after is Richmond golf coaching via a personalized, structured process that reliably translates onto the course.
Our Model is Different
We don’t do quick fixes. We coach you over time so you can:

- Tighten dispersion and improve distance control and short game.
- Make calm, confident decisions when lies, wind, or first-tee jitters change the picture.
- Enjoy client golf, family trips, or competition without embarrassment.
- Own your game. Lower your scores.
What You’ll Learn
- The movements that move the numbers: feel ↔ numbers ↔ ball flight including what to move, how much, and when.
- Highly effective and usable course management. Strategy comes first: if the fairway bunker is in play, change the tee shot. Learn how to measure your carry distances from different lies, environments, and shot shapes.

WHO IT’S FOR (AND NOT)
Who We Coach
- Focused adults. Players who want calm, control, and repeatability—and who can commit to a process. All learners are welcome; we calibrate detail to your wiring.
- College & aspiring-tour players. By fit.
- Selective juniors. Only when commitment and expectations match the workload (must be old enough to drive).
Who We’re Not For
- Tip-chasers & dabblers. Golf is a random positive reinforcement sport—one of the most addictive feedback loops outside of drugs. If you think your 1-in-100 pure shot is repeatable and just want a quick fix to “find it again”… we’re not for you.
Our Product is Coaching
We don’t sell tips. We don’t sell quick fixes. We don’t have social media. We coach golfers. And, we teach golfers how to coach themselves.
“Since working with Scott my handicap has dropped a full 6 points. I am now playing the best golf of my life, consistently around a 5-6 handicap. While my scores have come a long way, I am most proud of the mental approach and course management aspect of my game that Scott helped me with. ”

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQS)
Q. Can I book a single lesson?
A. We don’t do one-offs for new clients. Coaching is the product. In rare existing relationships, we may do a one-off, but lasting change requires the program.
Q. Will I definitely break 90 (or 80)?
A. Outcomes track with attitude and effort. We’ve coached 95-shooters into the 70s/80s while building calm and control. Your result depends on commitment and practice.
Q. Is this only indoors?
A. No. We use the indoor tech to build awareness fast, then translate to the course: lies, wind, firmness, and decisions. We also do three(3) 9-hole evaluations on course in the Richmond area.
Q. Where are you located?
A. Scott’s Addition area of Richmond, VA. We’ll share the exact address and easy onsite parking details after your application is accepted.
Q. Do you serve Short Pump / Midlothian / Glen Allen / Henrico / Chesterfield?
A. Yes — we coach golfers across Greater Richmond.
Q. Do you coach juniors?
A. Selectively — clear commitment, clear expectations, and parental alignment required. (Must be old enough to drive.)
Q. I’m an “engineer brain.” Will this help or hurt?
A. It helps — when dosed right. We’ll give you the detail you need without tying you in knots and teach you to adjust mid-round. We also work with “feel only” players and anywhere in between.
Q. What if I’m coming off injury or surgery?
A. We’ve rebuilt swings post-surgery and in coordination with PTs as needed. Efficiency over strain. Enjoyment returns. Let’s talk about your specific situation.
“Since I started working with Brian I have made huge improvements, my handicap has reduced significantly, I’m confident on the course and I’m having a lot more fun playing. Before, I used to blindly try to self correct with no consistent improvement. Now, when I get in trouble I can correct myself mid-round. I have much better fundamentals and clear swing thoughts that help me in the areas I am weak at.”

Former airline pilot training captain and instructor with over 12,000 hours of teaching experience in both simulators and live settings. After a commercial pilot career, Brian returned to his passion for golf instruction.
Nearly a decade ago, he shifted from traditional “lessons” to true golf coaching — because it works. Brian is known for turning perpetual YouTube tip-chasers into calm, self-correcting, self-improving golfers. His approach blends objective data with 100% personalized, plain-language cues that actually stick on the course.
Scott Coleman
High school (top 10 in Rhode Island) and college golfer (URI). Competitive scratch/plus (+1.5 to +2 Hcp) player as an adult and builder of The Edge Studio (2018). Background in turf management, course construction, civil engineering, and development.
Philosophy: nobody is the same – learn the movements that move the numbers and make smarter decisions so you can score lower and love the game more.
“After working with three different golf coaches, I came to Brian with sore forearms and elbows that had me in the doctors office. My ball had a crazy slice spin and I was desperate to enjoy the game. I can confidently say that Brian is on another level. His understanding of the golf swing goes far beyond basic technique. He deeply understands the science of how the human body moves and how to optimize that movement for each individual golfer. He seamlessly blends biomechanics with golf fundamentals to help you develop the best swing for your body, it’s not a one-size-fits-all model.”

STUDENT FEEDBACK
As part of our coaching improvement and feedback process, we ask our students four questions. We’ve pasted their responses verbatim below.
Feedback Questions
- Where was your game (scores, handicap, confidence, etc) just before we started working together?
- What specific improvements have you seen in scores, handicap improvement, swing knowledge, short game, processes, course management, mid round adjustments since we began?
- What part of the coaching process and facilities helped you the most? Anything you feel is unique?
- If a friend was considering me, what would you tell them?
Shamus C., law partner
I was a 10+ when I started with Brian and now I’m a 4. Before we started working together, I could hit it far and be streaky from time to time with scoring, but my swing was a mystery to me and my short game was rough. I could get hot and break into the 70s now and then, but was just as likely to shoot a 95, and most of the time hovered in the mid 80s.
Brian helped me address every aspect of my game from the swing, short game and distance control to mental approach and course strategy. Brian was able to break it up and deliver it in doses that made sense, kept it fun and helped me really make meaningful overall progress. I couldn’t have learned in a dozen lessons or so and I would have been too overwhelmed to do this on my own.
Brian’s holistic approach really helped me achieve something I always felt capable of but couldn’t figure out. He can no doubt focus on any particular aspect of your game and help you to improve on that aspect, but if you have the time and are willing, he can really help you both physically and mentally in all aspects of the game. And, perhaps more important than golf (at least to some extent), I’ve found the work we’ve done together (particularly on the mental side of the game) to translate into success in my personal and professional life.
If you are considering working with Brian, I would tell you that you will be in great hands. If you are willing to really commit to what he says, I have no doubt you will improve. He is also just a great guy that I thoroughly enjoyed spending time with each week.

Before working with Brian, my handicap hovered between 10 and 13. Since training with him, I’ve brought my index down to 7.5 and recently dipped below 7. More importantly, the confidence and understanding I now have in my swing and course management give me the tools to stay in the single digits – even if I stopped taking lessons today.
My top priority when I started working with Brian was my driver. I used to hit a low, hooky shot that occasionally found the fairway and rolled out—but more often left me with a tough, obstructed approach. After some focused technical work, the driver is now the least of my concerns. I recently hit 14 out of 14 fairways, but more importantly, I no longer feel any anxiety standing on the first tee.
That said, the biggest transformation in my game has been from 100 yards and in. While I’ve made swing improvements, the real breakthrough came from learning how to use the bounce and face of the club, and how to adjust my setup to control trajectory. Being confident from 100 yards in gives me a real shot at par on nearly every hole.
The coaching I received was elite across the board. Having played multiple sports at a high level, I’ve worked with a wide range of coaches – and Brian stands out. He was always well-prepared with a plan for each lesson, but what set him apart was the flexibility to address issues I brought in from my own practice or recent rounds. Knowing I had that space to work through real-time concerns gave me peace of mind, especially after tough rounds.
What truly sets Brian apart is how deeply he cares about your game. This isn’t a one-and-done approach—Brian was constantly thinking about how to help me improve, even outside our sessions. That kind of commitment is rare, and the results speak for themselves.
When someone asks me what I think about Brian’s program, I say just do it. Stop wasting money on the one-and-done lessons. This level of instruction is worth every penny. When you factor in how much thought and care Brian puts into your game outside of the actual lesson time, it’s the steal of the century.
Plus, you’ll actually learn your own swing. You won’t be reliant on constant lessons because you’ll understand how to self-correct and make smart adjustments. That said… once you see the progress, it’s hard to walk away!
Katelynn S., high school golfer
Having Brian as my coach was a major turning point in my game. When we first started working together, I was a consistent bogey player with horrible course management. Within a year of working together my game transformed majorly, taking my handicap from a 12 to a 4; along with better course management, accuracy in short game and the ability to work mental blocks.
Through every swing change and mental hurdle we encountered, Brian was always my biggest cheerleader and wanted it just as bad as I wanted it. I truly cannot say how transformative he was as a coach, and a friend, to me. I highly recommend Brian to anyone who is looking to take their game to the next level!
Todd J., business owner / VP
When I started working with Scott, I had a 17 handicap and regularly shot in the mid-90s. My confidence on the course was at an all-time low.
Initially, I sought help with distance—my 7 iron was maxing out around 125 yards and lacked accuracy. Scott helped me realize that improving distance and precision required fixing my swing mechanics and making better contact. I’d taken lessons from several golf pros over the years, but always found myself back at square one.
Thanks to Scott’s teaching approach, I’ve lowered my handicap to a 10, consistently shoot in the low 80s, and even sneak into the 70s. At 58 years old, I’m hitting the ball farther and more accurately than ever before.
If you’re looking for a truly in-depth and transformative approach to your game, I highly recommend Scott.
Ross L.
When I started working with Scott, my handicap was in excess of 20 and I rarely broke 100. I was tentative on all tee boxes. I started working with Scott in preparation for a golf trip to Scotland. The trip was scheduled to occur in about 12 months after I first started working with Scott.
In the time that we worked together, I gained confidence in my game. By the conclusion of my time working with Scott, I routinely broke 100. I played the Old Course in Scotland and shot 89.
Scott demonstrated patience, but at the same time pushed me when needed. He also recognized the mental aspect of the game that helped me gain confidence. I enjoyed playing golf much more after working with Scott.
I would recommend Scott as a golf instructor. He will provide you with a professional and patient approach to improve your game.
Matt K., commercial litigation partner
Brian literally transformed my game. I really was ready to quit the game. I couldn’t play a consistent round of golf. I couldn’t self correct during a round. I felt like it was hopeless. I was referred to Brian by a friend who was also struggling. He told me about Brian’s instruction regiment and I figured it was time to sign up or check out. Since going to Brian, my game has really improved. I make better and consistent contact. I have gained confidence and consequently my scores are much better( often times in the 70s). Prior to this, I never scored close to the 70s. But more importantly, I am having more fun! Isn’t that what this is all about ???
The specific improvements are better and more consistent ball strikes. Better short game which I struggled with for years. All of this has resulted in better scores. Brian also helped me mentally, helping me manage expectations. He also instructed me how to play certain holes at my club. He toughened me up when I needed it, yet understood my frustrations and gave me a pat on the back to give me encouragement.
The part of the coaching process that really was helpful was the repetition and drilling that we did until progress was accomplished. He refused to give up and constantly pushed me to be my best. He really gave me a mental toughness that I never had before. That is what a good coach does!
If a friend was considering working with Brian I would say don’t hesitate, it really will change your game for the better. Not only that, but Brian became a valued friend. He is patient, persistent, and determined to make you a better golfer.
Ka’imi F., NFL Pro
When I started with Brian in 2019, I had just purchased my first set of custom clubs. Before that, I’d been playing with an old set my dad gave me back in high school. I was ready to take my game more seriously and I knew I needed a coach to guide me.
I honestly can’t remember exactly how I ended up in Brian’s bay—luck definitely played a role—but I took a trial lesson to see what it was all about. As an athlete, I’ve been around plenty of coaches, so I can usually tell the difference between a good one and a not-so-good one pretty quickly.
What struck me right away was Brian’s patience and communication style. If you’ve ever read The Inner Game of Tennis or The Inner Game of Golf, Brian’s approach feels like that in real life—he doesn’t force the swing onto you, he allows the swing to come to you. That clicked with me immediately.
My handicap has steadily dropped about 2–5 strokes a year since working with Brian. I started out shooting in the mid-90s, and now I’m down to a 3.3.
The area I’ve improved the most—and now trust the most—is my short game. That’s been the foundation of my play, and it’s where Brian and I put in a lot of time early on.
Another big project was my driver. When I first came to Brian, I had zero confidence in it—I would routinely hit 4-iron off the tee, and for a while I even thought a driving iron might be the answer. Today, the driver has become one of my favorite clubs. I step up to the tee with a clear mind, a solid routine Brian helped me build, and full confidence to attack the course.
Brian has a unique ability to simplify the game. He doesn’t overload you with swing thoughts or technical jargon—he gives you the tools to find your own rhythm and trust it. His patience, his ability to communicate clearly, and his focus on building confidence make the process feel natural and sustainable.
If a friend was considering working with me, I’d first ask how serious they were about improving on a scale of 1–10. If the answer was high, I’d tell them: Great. It’s going to take an investment of time, money, and patience—but if you’re willing to commit, go see my good friend Brian Coleman.
He’s the best decision I’ve made for my golf game.
Jay R., CEO investment banking
When I walked into my first session with Brian, I was at my breaking point. As a former 4 handicap that after 8 years of very little play and a shoulder surgery, I was a hopeless basket case with a new case of the driver yips and golf anxiety. What was my score? My handicap? Who cares? I was close to walking away and never playing the game I love and my only real hobby ever again. I love every aspect of golf (its history, architecture, traditions, etc) and yet I dreaded even the thought of playing. To say the least I was broken.
Brian has a curious and creative mind and is fascinated by the mental game as well as the golf swing. He will teach the entire golfer – swing, short game, and most importantly help you find an approach that works for you. For three years, Brian worked with me to rebuild my golf swing; helped me understand and craft what would be my new swing; and finally he helped me find a path towards a mentality and mental game. I have since had several rounds or just even parts of rounds where I was in “flow state” and my demons were at bay. On the course, when I have a mechanical problem, I can always diagnose it; when I have a mental issue, I have a process. I have hope!
I continue to work with Brian’s successor and have had yet another shoulder surgery but I am impatient and itching to return. A different story than prior to meeting Brian when thought of golf prompted only anxiety and dread.
Thanks Brian!
Booth G.
When I first started working with Scott, the confidence I had in my golf game was at an all-time low. I had been hovering around a 10-12 handicap for a few years, but things were starting to decline very quickly. I would stand over the golf ball, unsure of what each swing might produce, battling 4 to 5 different swing thoughts at a time. Scott immediately helped simplify things for me, not just technically with my golf swing, but we also worked extensively on the mental part of my game and course management. He gave me the tools to “get out of my own head,” and the confidence to not let a few bad shots ruin my round. He made small technical changes in our sessions, which have proved to be long lasting.
Since working with Scott my handicap has dropped a full 6 points. I am now playing the best golf of my life, consistently around a 5-6 handicap. While my scores have come a long way, I am most proud of the mental approach and course management aspect of my game that Scott helped me with. Golf is one of those games that when you’re playing well you feel like you’ll never miss, but when things are bad you feel like you may never hit a good shot again. Scott helped me understand how to manage my in-round emotions, never getting too high or too low, because there will always be good holes, and always be bad holes. Scott helped me understand that just because the last shot didn’t go as planned, it doesn’t mean the next one will be the same, and to not carry the weight of bad shots around for your entire round.
From a technical point of view, I love how simple Scott’s approach to coaching is. He doesn’t try to fix 5 things at once in your swing, even if that is the end result that’s needed. He focuses on one change at a time, making sure you’re comfortable before moving on to the next thing. From the mental/course management aspect, Scott’s calm demeanor and confidence comes through in everything he says, which makes it easy to relax even if you’re struggling to find confidence in yourself.
Go into your sessions with Scott with an open mind. Your intention may be to go there for one aspect of your swing or golf game, but you’ll quickly find out that Scott can help with all areas of your game, especially the mental side. Scott’s facilities provide a relaxed learning environment, especially the short game area where we ended all of our sessions. It’s a place you want to go and practice and look forward to coming back to each week.
Richard W.
I’ve been a scratch golfer for most of my life, but I wasn’t happy with my ball striking. After working with Scott for two years, my technical understanding of the swing has grown significantly, and my fundamentals and ball striking have improved across the board.
Beyond improving my swing knowledge and giving me a reliable base to build on, Scott helped me stabilize my scoring under pressure. I’m still chasing lower scores, but even my off-days in competition are significantly better than they used to be.
The focus on weight transfer and the ability to train with high-quality facilities made a big difference. I also appreciated having a clear plan and not rushing through each phase — staying focused on the fundamentals until they were truly solid.
I’d tell them Scott brings structure, clarity, and results — especially for players who already have a solid foundation but want to take the next step. No fluff, just smart coaching that works.
Ben P.
Mid-single digit handicap, scores were fine, but I had a lot of volatility. Normal weekend golf was fine, but tournaments or pressure situations would result in terrible scores.
We worked a lot on swing patch and technique. I had a swing that provided power through casting and was only good when timing was perfect, under pressure it failed time and time again. Working with Scott provided significant improvement in mechanics and process. We reconstructed the take-away and load which helped to deliver the club in a much more repeatable fashion. One of my personal goals was to break 70 and I must have shot 70 a dozen times, the mental focus and process allowed me to achieve that goal not once but twice!
Watching your swing on video and in slow motion is a difficult obstacle to overcome. The reality of what you are doing versus what you think you are doing is night and day. Having a top-notch hitting bay, track man and the technology to provide feedback is priceless. Scott’s a great coach with the right balance making you feel comfortable to get out of your comfort zone and get the real work done.
It is all about the process and commitment. Do you want to get better? 1-5 lessons at random on the range or after a bad round are not going to make any long-term improvements. Committing to the process and being able to hit thousands of balls year-round will take your game to the next level. Being able to hit balls all winter and even in the summer when it is 100 degrees out in a comfortable environment keeps things sharp. The process over the year or a 6-month period allows you to break through old muscle memory and create a better more repeatable swing, at least it did for me.
Dana M., director of schools
I started as a beginner and after a few months of coaching from Brian, not only did my game improve, but people I didn’t even know on the golf course often commented how beautiful my swing was.
What makes Brian truly exceptional isn’t just his golf knowledge—it’s the relationship he built with me. From day one, he took the time to understand not just how I swing, but how I think, learn, and handle challenges. He has a very calming disposition which helped me relax and focus.
His attention to detail is second to none. He can find small adjustments which can make a big difference on the course. I still hear his voice when I play, thanks Brian!
Thomas C., high school student
I started working with dad as mostly a beginner. As a gymnast, soccer and volleyball setter I had enough athleticism to hit the ball but I was surprised how terrible I was at golf. Initially my confidence to play the game low but my eagerness to learn was definitely high. I didn’t know what a handicap was initially but it had to be 30+.
It’s been a little over a year and my handicap is now a 6. The driver is a weapon when it’s working, short game I have so much confidence in any shot. 3 putting happens but it’s fairly rare. When I make a double, I’m able to bounce back to a par or a birdie sometimes. And the biggest is being aware of what the hell is going on in my swing mid-round, knowing how to correct and when to just live with the quirk of the day and swing around it.
I’ve competed at the highest junior levels in multiple sports but I haven’t had a coach before that has completely turned their brain on in a coaching way, there’s no further thinking then just making sure I got what I needed, not my wants or interests or personal reasons at all.
If you aren’t sure that this is what you want for your own golf and aren’t capable of giving your effort then don’t waste either of your time and money. If you are it’s hard to believe you won’t be happy.
David M., solutions programmer
I started with Brian as a complete beginner. I had difficulty even hitting the ball at all sometimes and then I’d catch one and have no idea how that happened. I had no swing shape or understanding of golf mechanics.
Within 6-8 months of training with Brian roughly once per week I was able to score 100-110 consistently. My goal starting out was to be able to complete a round by making good progress on each hole, be able to “have fun” out there. That was totally achieved and I was surprising my friends who have been playing for years.
For facilities, I’m a technical guy, so I really appreciated the Trackman and all the statistics it gives you. Really helped my mental model of ball striking and ball flight.
For coaching process, I found that a lot of the guidance was based around improving understanding of swing mechanics and improving “feel”. Obviously there are benefits to process-based, structured set-up and swing, which we covered when it was relevant. But each swing is different on a real hole. So Brian’s coaching process set me up for every swing, not just the ideal swing. When I would come back from a tough round, we would break down strategy problems and work on the aspects of my swing that would boost those deficiencies on the course.
Do it! Think hard about what you are struggling with and build a list of good questions. Brian will definitely help you find the right answers.
Mervyn H.
Complete beginner.
In a few months, I went from learning how to grip to being able to do a full swing. Several months later, I joined a friend for my first golf game at First Tee’s par 3 course.
Video analysis on the simulator plus being next door to Blanchard’s for a cold brew afterwards.
Scott’s great for beginners looking to get started. He breaks down the swing into components that are easier to learn. Most of all, he gives beginners the motivation and confidence to stay the course, which is the most important part of learning how to play.
Michelle K., marketing executive
I was a couple months into learning golf, had a few initial lessons elsewhere to start out and had started relying on the internet and YouTube to help me with my game. I lacked confidence and clarity on where or how to improve. I was anxious about playing at golf courses and had no clue what I was doing at the range – just smashing balls endlessly with no clear goals.
Since I started working with Brian I have made huge improvements, my handicap has reduced significantly, I’m confident on the course and I’m having a lot more fun playing. Before, I used to blindly try to self-correct with no consistent improvement. Now, when I get in trouble I can correct myself mid-round. I have much better fundamentals and clear swing thoughts that help me in the areas I am weak at.
He helped every aspect of my golfing improve – from my irons, chipping, drives, pitching and putting.
Brian has a personalized approach to coaching, working with you and your swing to help you improve and enjoy the game.
As a coach he is friendly, patient, encouraging, and inspiring – which counts for a lot since golf can be so frustrating! Especially since golf improvement is not always linear.
He tries a lot of different approaches to help you find what works for you and he also knows how to break things down to just what you need to know so your brain isn’t filled with too much clutter / too many swing thoughts.
Brian is a phenomenal coach with a unique style and it also doesn’t hurt that he is enjoyable to work with. Compared to other coaches I have worked with I have found what sets him apart is that he is able to pinpoint problem areas and offer a variety of techniques to help you improve your game. He meets you where you are and helps you focus on the areas that need the most work and that will also be the most transferable to other parts of your game. I highly recommend working with Brian! You won’t regret it.

Beginner in every aspect. Could not reliably hit the ball in any meaningful way.
Scoring was always the last priority but we worked on fundamentals and building the right swing which helped in every aspect. Iron play was always the focus and it’s the strongest part of my game. Setup and grip were critical in building a good foundation. Outside of the mechanics, the number one improvement was understanding my swing and how to correct through mid-round and practice.
I describe it to others as a “Mr. Miyagi” type approach that prioritized mind first. Golf really is mental and buying in to the process is what kept me committed to slowly improving my game. There are no quick fixes.
Trust the process and be ready to put in the work. Improvements in this game take time. Brian is a coach in the truest sense, both professionally and personally. The relationship works best when you realize it’s more than just golf.

After working with three different golf coaches, I came to Brian with sore forearms and elbows that had me in the doctors office. My ball had a crazy slice spin and I was desperate to enjoy the game. I can confidently say that Brian is on another level. His understanding of the golf swing goes far beyond basic technique—he deeply understands the science of how the human body moves and how to optimize that movement for each individual golfer. He seamlessly blends biomechanics with golf fundamentals to help you develop the best swing for your body, it’s not a one-size-fits-all model.
What really sets Brian apart is his ability to quickly diagnose swing issues and break them down piece by piece, like solving a puzzle. He doesn’t just give you general advice—he gives you targeted, actionable fixes that produce real results. Since working with him, my scoring game has significantly improved, and more importantly, I’m enjoying the game more than ever.
I was initially skeptical about learning indoors, but the facility and technology Brian uses are outstanding. The data from the Trackman is incredibly accurate and insightful. Once you learn how to interpret the numbers, you’ll understand exactly where you need to improve and how to practice effectively.
Beyond mechanics, Brian also offers valuable insights into the mental game. His holistic approach ensures that you’re not only swinging better, but thinking better on the course.
If you’re serious about improving your golf game, Brian is hands-down the best coach to get you there.

Before working with Scott, my scores and handicap were climbing quickly. My confidence was at an all-time low and just the thought of going to the range or teeing it up on the course was intimidating. Age had started to expose some long-standing swing flaws, which led to poor shots and made golf feel nearly unplayable, both physically and mentally.
The improvement has been tremendous. I actually enjoy practicing and playing again. A huge breakthrough for me was finally knowing what to work on. Scott has taught me not just the mechanics of the swing, but also the mental side of the game. I’ve learned fundamental techniques that are starting to show up on a consistent basis. Understanding that a repeatable swing is challenging, I can now recognize what went wrong and adjust mid-round. This is something I never could do before.
The simulator data made a huge difference for me. I wasn’t a simulator guy before, but seeing the numbers tied directly to my swing was eye-opening. Scott is excellent at interpreting the data and explaining how it relates to the swing. Once I understood what I was looking for (swing path, angle, contact), I could use that feedback to guide my practice and get better results both on the range and course.
Trust the process. For me, the program taught me many techniques that I am getting better at now, way over a year removed from the Edge Academy. If I’m not playing well, I now have the tools to self-correct, whether it’s during a round or on the range. That never used to be possible for me. Golf is fun again!

Before working with Coach Coleman, my game was at its lowest point. My swing had been broken by years of conflicting instruction from numerous coaches, including at a national chain and 2 top PGA teachers. My confidence was so low that I had essentially stopped playing full rounds of golf. My scores were inconsistent, my handicap was climbing, and I felt completely lost over the ball.
Since starting with Coach Coleman, I’ve seen a complete transformation. My swing was rebuilt from the ground up based on my body, flexibility, and natural motion—no cookie-cutter mechanics. My scores have dropped significantly, my handicap has come down, and my driving distance and accuracy have both improved. My short game is sharper, and perhaps most importantly, I now have the ability to make corrections mid-round instead of watching a bad swing snowball for 18 holes.
What stood out most was Coach Coleman’s ability to diagnose the root cause rather than just treat the symptoms. He didn’t try to force my swing into a model—it was personalized and progressive. The use of video, clear drills, and step-by-step progression made the changes stick. His facility provided the tools to measure and track real progress, which built confidence session by session.
I would tell them that if they’re serious about truly improving their game—and not just getting quick tips—Coach Coleman is the person to see. He has the rare ability to rebuild a swing around who you are as a golfer, giving you the tools to improve and sustain those improvements long-term. For me, he took a game I was ready to walk away from and made golf fun again.

Before I began working with Brian, I was stuck in a perpetual handicap zone of 15-19. It didn’t matter how many different things I tried, and it also didn’t matter how many individual lessons I went to with other coaches. I simply couldn’t improve my game in any meaningful or lasting way.
After working with Brian, I saw immediate improvements in technique first, especially around the greens. I developed more knowledge about the kind of shot I should be trying to make in a given situation, and I developed the exact technique I needed for that shot. My handicap began moving down steadily with these improvements alone. The next major improvement was ball striking – both in consistency and accuracy. Over a matter of months, Brian helped me eliminate all the throwaway strokes from poor ball striking (super fat shots, super thin shots, etc.). This lowered the handicap even further.
Brian used video and data to really tell the story of my swing, and that was important because it’s an objective story. You can’t argue with the numbers, and it gives precision above and beyond what can be seen with the naked eye. My drive had way too much backspin, but I never would have known without the tools he used. I also really appreciated that Brian didn’t use the typical golf lingo to explain everything to me. He used actual descriptive words so that I could understand. This may seem like a subtle point, but it’s important. For example: if your coach tells you that “you’re coming over the top” or “your hands were too quick,” that could mean a variety of things to the player, from swing path to body position. I think players that are trying to improve need a coach that can state common golf problems in new and different ways to help the player better understand.
I highly recommend Brian as a golf coach. He helped me tremendously, and I really enjoyed working with him on all aspects of my game.

I’m writing to enthusiastically recommend Brian Coleman as a golf coach. I came to him after a long layoff due to a serious injury that required surgery. At the time, I wasn’t keeping score and could barely complete a round because of the pain. I lacked confidence, was afraid of reinjury, and frankly didn’t know if I could return to the game I loved. From our very first session, Brian met me exactly where I was—physically and mentally—and began helping me rebuild not just my swing, but also my strength, confidence, and love for the game.
Brian’s understanding of body mechanics and how the golf swing works is exceptional. He is able to quickly pinpoint issues and knows exactly where the power in the stroke should come from. He showed me how to swing the club efficiently, so I didn’t have to overexert myself physically. He even went above and beyond by coordinating with my physical therapist and spent time listening to what I should or shouldn’t be doing. He designed exercises to help me build strength safely and regularly checked in to make sure I felt okay during and after our sessions. Thanks to his thoughtful and informed approach, I now feel stronger and better than I did.
Technically, I’ve experienced real breakthroughs. For the first time ever, I’m getting my hands out in front of my body and striking down on the ball with my irons—something I had always struggled with. I used to hit up on the ball, and now my iron play is better than it’s ever been. With Brian’s help, I’ve returned to playing full rounds and have begun breaking 100 consistently. More than that, I’m now having fun and playing with confidence, round after round—something I never thought possible before my surgery and after such a long break.
He also helped sharpen other parts of my game, including taking me outside for a focused putting lesson, which has significantly improved my performance on the greens. The use of Trackman technology in our lessons gave me real-time feedback and allowed me to truly understand what was happening with my swing. That, combined with access to a comfortable, weather-proof indoor facility, made every session productive—regardless of the conditions outside.
His hour-long lessons gave me enough time to really absorb what I was working on and build muscle memory for the right mechanics, rather than just rush through quick tips. He also had me hit intentionally “bad” shots at times so I could learn what different mistakes felt like—helping me develop the self-awareness and ability to make mid-round corrections on my own.
On a personal level, Brian is incredibly personable, with a great sense of humor and an easygoing teaching style that makes every session enjoyable. He genuinely gets to know his students, builds real friendships, and clearly cares deeply about their progress—not just as golfers, but as people. He’s not in it to “milk” students for endless lessons. His goal is to make you confident, capable, and self-sufficient on the course.
If a friend asked me whether they should work with Brian, I would say yes, without hesitation. Whether you’re recovering from injury, starting the game, or trying to refine your technique, Brian will meet you where you are, guide you thoughtfully, and help you become the best version of yourself as a golfer—and probably as a person too. He’s not just a great instructor; he’s an outstanding coach, mentor, and human being.

Handicap has improved from a 20 to a 16 but I now have capability to play at a level even lower but need to log some more rounds. Overall – more consistent ball striking, stay out of trouble, fewer big numbers.
Short game has improved dramatically. I have a unique swing – I’d say you did an excellent job of working with me rather than trying to fit me into a more traditional swing. Good news is he will take you where you are, figure out how to improve YOUR game which I believe is very different than a traditional approach.

After 40 years as a 22+ handicapped, I decided it was time to do something about my game. Accordingly, I decided to work with Brian rather than working with my country club pros who were not as regularly available.
Over the course of the first year my handicap improved by 10+ strokes. I picked up distance and accuracy. Most importantly, though, I was able to make corrections during a round, having gained a much better understanding of the underlying cause of bad shots.
Working indoors and taking the elements out of the equation was helpful. In addition to the technical instruction, Brian was very helpful in improving the mental part of the game and strategy on how to approach a variety of circumstances one might find themselves in on the course during a round. Actually, I would tell them that in addition to good technical advice and help with the mental aspects of the game, you are an enjoyable person to get to know and visit with. I looked forward to my lessons for that reason as much as the instructional value.

Thank you for the two years of coaching. I came to you with a terrible swing to the point that I could not even keep score it was so bad. Fortunately, with your ability to break it all down and analyze everything, I am now hitting the ball much more consistently down the fairway and having fun on the course. Your patience and dedication to my unique challenges made a great impact on how I play the game now. My son was a much better golfer than me but you also were able to help him with his game in so many ways. We both highly recommend anyone that is wanting to improve, at any level, to contact you all.
Rique F., real estate development
When starting with Scott I was a 12 handicap and I did 30 sessions with him. Within the next year I got my handicap down to a 7.2.
In these sessions there were a lot of strategy discussions about what shots to hit in various situations. I would say my short game improvement was the key to my better play.
Anything you feel is unique? All of the stats that the simulator gives you feedback on are amazing. It was my short game that improved the most.
I would very much recommend Scott if you are a serious golfer who wants to improve their overall game.

Before I found Brian Coleman I was literally ready to stop playing golf, I was no longer having fun. I had been playing golf since Middle School and for most of my life I had been a mid to high single digit handicap player without too much effort or practice. I was routinely a player who shot 77 to 83 and for several years I could show up 5 minutes before the tee time and head to first tee.
Occasionally I could shoot low to mid 70’s if I practiced a bit and if I had a terrible round I would post 86 or 87. Over time, with the stresses of life, work, fatherhood (and additional weight) I found myself having a tough time breaking 90. The first thing that left me was confidence, followed quickly by enjoyment. I used to live for going on golf trips with the guys and I was usually one of the better players in the group. All of the sudden I was just trying to break 90. Eventually I played in a two-day Club Championship at my prior club and I shot 95-95 and that was it, I was done. That’s when I stumbled upon Brian…
In working with Brian I quickly learned the difference between a golf lesson (quick fix) and buying into a process with a golf coach. I made a commitment and started learning from the ground up. The best part of the process with Brian is that he figures out what works best for you, and then you spend a significant amount of time on each step of the process. Results are slow at first because you are essentially retraining your body and mind, the goal is to practice in between coaching sessions and start, in my case, rebuilding. Because you are now buying into the process of improvement you also have the opportunity to work on every aspect of the game.
Working with Brian really taught me that you have to “practice with a purpose” rather than just rapid fire balls. Some of my work with Brian included hitting a 7 or 8 iron for the entire hour just to get certain feels and positions. That would eventually translate to the way I practiced in between sessions and it also taught me to learn to love the process of practicing. Most importantly he teaches you that if you practice properly that is where the work takes place, when you show up to play on the course you know what to do and you can make necessary correct adjustments more easily.
Due to the work with video and technology you truly understand weight distribution and what it really means to turn and/or stay behind the ball. For instance something so small as keeping your weight on the balls of your feet rather than on your heels makes a huge difference. Additionally with proper use of video I learned that I was swaying and this was essentially something I started doing later in life thru laziness and lack of work on the basics and technique.
After a few years my confidence had completely changed, I was back in the 80’s and high 70s, I had gained distance off the tee and most importantly I was actually making contact again—this is huge because at the depths I didn’t have a clue whether I was going to chunk it or thin it. Brian takes the time to talk to you and take you thru the thinking aspect of the game, I had never really understood my golf swing the way I do now.
The most unique thing about working with Brian was his approach. He is very intuitive, he understands each player and what their capabilities are and will adapt to thoughts and advise what is most appropriate for them. I did gain a ton of understanding of the groundwork and weight transfer from setup stance and then the back swing and so on. He helps you quiet your brain and let your intuitive knowledge take over.
